Happy birthday wishes to one of my favorite authors and more

July 31, 2011

First, I would like to say Happy Birthday to one of my favorite authors J.K. Rowling. May she have many more!

Second, I am at the gusset of the Dublin Bay socks. I am already on the hunt for the next pair. Isn’t that weird? I haven’t even finished a pair of socks and already I am looking for other sock projects. Please tell me I am not alone in this department.

Sock criteria:
* I would like it to “encompass” the qualities of being mysterious yet somewhat victorian. I guess more steam punk in nature.
* But it must also look good in other colors, besides black.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Knitting keeps me sane

July 27, 2011

This morning was chaos. I looked at the clock and noticed it was 7 in the morning. Normally I am a night time type of girl but I am going to school. But today I had an appointment with my therapist and my husband was scheduled to work at the same time, which meant that my mother in law would not only have to watch my daughter; but she would also have to give me a ride. I looked at the clock and noticed that she was coming in an hour and a half!

I sprang out of bed, got dressed, brushed my hair, and teeth and set about getting my daughter ready. I got ready in record time (10 minutes). But as all parents know children can take longer, if they decide to. This was one of those days. I barely managed to get her shoes on her, and then my ride came. We rushed out the door and rushed off to my appointment.

While waiting for my appointment this morning, I noticed that I had a whole 5 minutes before my appointment started. “Oh I will just go ahead and knit” I thought to myself and then my stomach sank and my heart fell. I forgot my knitting.

I sat there for the whole 5 minutes trying to entertain myself. In reality it was more like 8 minutes, but still! 8 minutes hurriedly looking around at chairs, magazines, books, and the floor. In the meanwhile my fingers were itching to do something. I think I looked insane! For people sitting next to me would look over at my face, see my expression, and then change seats as fast as they could (or move away from me if I was standing).

Imagine my relief, when my name was called! I was so relieved (but at the same time I was upset at myself for forgetting my knitting). Lesson learned. I will have knitting backups. I will stuff them in my pocket if I have to (which I really don’t want to do, but I will.)

Song to keep me knitting

July 26, 2011

I have to be honest. I have not touched the Dublin Bay Sock since Monday (Was it monday, or the last time I posted?) Hmm. Anyway, to get me back into the “spirit” of knitting on this sock I play this song (over and over or ones like it)

and so far it has helped. What do you do, to help keep you knitting?

one Dublin sock down, one to go

July 23, 2011

So I completed the first Dublin Bay sock and realized that my toe looks a bit wonky. I have reknit the toe twice and finally have stopped because I wanted to knit on the second sock. Well I started the second sock last night and this is what I have so far:

(and yes the sock is on its side.)

Mind you I do plan to reknit the first toe (for a third time) but not until later. Re-knitting sock toes is a pain in the arse (just ask me how I know).

A row here a row there

July 21, 2011

The past few days I have only been able to knit a row here and there, and it is all because of a cold I have recently come down with. With this cold it seems that I can’t even count to 10, so I have decided that this weekend I am spending it on myself and taking a few days rest. I need it to get better, so I can knit at full health again.

How is everyone else?

It sounds impossible

July 16, 2011

It sounds impossible, but it actually happened. As I have told you before I am extremely late, when it comes to any sort of news. But did you know that someone has actually knitted 7 complete pairs of socks on 1 needle?

It’s true! And just to prove that it happened here is a video of the handsome knitter knitting away.

And here is his (yes, the knitter is male!) lovely blog where his socks are completed!

Seven pairs of socks

Watching the video and actually seeing the finished projects, this makes me want to do this. Now, if only I could get my hands on a circular needle like that! Which by the way, might be hard as the needle he was using was a custom made 120 inch circular needle. But, I can dream, can’t I?

Man, I have been busy

July 15, 2011

Man, I have been busy this week. First off, I started my summer class, then unbeknownst to me (but knownst by everyone else) I had to babysit and may still have to. Then I had friends and family over and the house is in utter shambles. If any of my knitter friends were to come over I wouldn’t let them in, for I would be ashamed of the state my house is in.

Aside from that, I somehow managed to find time to knit and I am proud to say that the socks are done (I will hopefully take a picture of them later on.) and I have picked up the Dublin Bay socks again. Later on today, I am for the first time in a long time, going to the theater with my lovely husband. And while I want to enjoy the movie with him, in the back of my mind I keep wanting to sneak my knitting in with me. If you think about it, a movie is the perfect opportunity to get some much needed knitting accomplished.

What will probably end up happening is I will tidy up the house and then put something in like red dwarf (or Are you being served, monty python, black books, IT CROWD… the list of my british comedies is ever growing) and knit to an episode or two. Hey, that sounds like a good idea. I will get right on that! As soon as I can pry my husband’s head off of my legs. Don’t ask, all I will say is that my lovely hubby didn’t sleep well last night and likes to keep me close by, I am assuming it is a comfort thing. *looks down*

Shh!! He’s sleeping! *clicking of needles going on in the background.*

I won a contest

July 8, 2011

On Ravelry, there is a forum for the podcast of fiberbeat which I listen to. I absolutely love this podcast! Anyway, the podcast as all subscribers know, does contests. And, I am very excited to say that I won!

What did I win do you ask? An autographed copy of this:

Which oddly enough, fits my sense of clothing style anyway.

If you have never listened to the fiberbeat podcast, I highly recommend it. Wondermike (and his crew) put a lot of work into this podcast!

Thank you Wondermike for all that you do, and keep making podcasts!

Just for giggles last night

July 7, 2011

Just for giggles I started a plain jane vanilla sock for my hubby. Why? Because I can! Actually, in all honesty it is to keep me sane and not go crazy…I end up starting multiple projects, however (over time) I do end up finishing them. Is anyone else like this? I have figured that I can’t knit on just one project at a time. I always have to have more then one project going. That is just how I am.

I can’t just knit on one project at a time (although I do know knitters and crocheters like that). If I knit on just one project at a time, I get bored easily and un-interested in the project. Then it takes even longer to get done. This might just be my opinion though.

Another thing I did just for giggles, was to time how long it took me to knit 64 stitches. And according to my stopwatch it took me 3.22 minutes. However, I feel this number is inaccurate for while the timer was going my phone (which has the timer on it) dropped to the floor, and I had to stop and pick it up and resume knitting. All in all I’d say that I did pretty well. This makes me wonder if anyone has ever timed how fast the Yarnharlot can knit. Maybe that is one of those things the world will never know.

Knitting, knitting, knitting

July 5, 2011

For the past 2 days all I have done is knit. Which is a good thing, but now I have a song I made up to the tune of Raw hide. Here is what I have so far:

Knitting, knitting, knitting
Keep on knitting, knitting
knitting, knitting, knitting all day!!!

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
